A. Employment and Income Generation

Responding to the abject poverty and under nourishment of the target population, the Society from its inception has been supporting employment and income generation endeavors. Even though considerable amount has been doled out for the purpose apprehensions are there as to whether the assistance really served its purpose in any sustainable measure. However, of late, the Society is trying to implement such schemes within an organized frame and systematic order.

B. Corparate Tailoring Centre (COPTAC)

This institution holds the distinction of being the oldest undertaking of CHASS, having established in the year 1975. Located in the immediate vicinity of the CHASS’s administrative office, the centre performs duel functions viz., training of girls in tailoring and embroidery under KGTE scheme and undertake garment making. On an average 150 girls complete training every year with certificates. The production wing absorbs 55 women. The production unit has a tie up with the Khadi programme that the cloth produced under it is tailored in to readymade garments at COPTAC. A special feature of the tailoring job carried out is that vestments and cassock are done here in a large scale with reputation all over the country.

CCollaboration with KSBCDC

CHASS has networked with several financial institutions to incorporate micro finance facilities to SHGs to strengthen their livelihood initiatives. The aim of this networking is to provide credits at low inertest rates to increase their profit. Kerala State Backward Community Development Corporation (KSBCDC) is one of the major institutions that have joined hands with CHASS to provide support to the needy people. With the support of KSBCDC, CHASS has given loan to the tune of Rs. 60 lakhs to 60 self help groups for starting IGPs.

D.Sanchari Skill Training

CHASS designed a special skill training program for women SHG members at their local vicinity lasting three months period. During the three month period training will be provided in cutting & tailoring, hand embroidery, doormat making, ornaments making, door curtain making, flower making, umbrella making , washing powder making, toilet soap making, liquid soap making, liquid blue making, lotion making etc. During 2015-16 , 7 batches successfully completed the training and a total of 192 people are benefitted out of the training.

E.EDP Training & Swasraya Market

During 2014-15, we conducted 42 programmes on different trades and over 3240 members benefited from the programme. CHASS is running a swasraya market in order to ensure regular supply of raw materials to the EDP units to prepare, soap, soap powder, Liquid soap, Lotion etc. The demand comes from the members of SHGs and other CBOs of CHASS. The objective of the activity is to direct the people towards a self reliant growth.

F.Job training and placements in collaboration with ICICI Foundation

CHASS in collaboration with ICICI foundation conducted free residential Job training and placements service to 76 school dropouts. Three months long training and practical classes were given in refrigeration, air conditioning, plumbing, electrician, etc. 53 trainees were received placements in reputed Multinational companies like, EEC, Blumoon, Voltas, etc.

G. Free Driving Course for School Dropouts

In the year 2014, CHASS started a Functional Vocational Training course for unemployed youths with special focus on school dropouts. In the first batch 40 youths were identified from Changanacherry, Nedumkunnam,Kurumbanadom, Manimala and Amboori  regions and provided them with training in driving for self employment.
